And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”-Philippians 4:7
When God gives us anything, it is always beyond our comprehension and imagination. Peace is part of our inheritance as children of God. God given peace is just like joy, it does not depend on our circumstances or feelings. Peace is a gift. It is just like any other gift, if you never open it, you will never receive the benefits. We must decide to walk in peace. This is easier said than done because as humans we are imperfect. God knew that we were imperfect and Jesus was sent to die to pay a price we could never pay for our sins. Also, we have the Holy Spirit who is our helper to cultivate many things including peace.
In John 14:26-27 Jesus said, “ But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” Peace is not a feeling but a lifestyle. The peace that comes from God is a shalom peace which means being whole, nothing is broken or missing. We live in a world where we are told we need certain things or people to obtain peace. We know true peace comes from God.
Are you walking in the shalom peace of God? You have access to it as a child of God. My prayer is all of us will walk in peace. Jesus, who has many titles including the Prince of Peace, died for us to have many things including peace. We cannot naturally cultivate peace. The Holy Spirit is available as a gentle helper to help us and he resides in us. Psalm 4:8 says, “In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.” James 3:18 says, “Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness. May the peace of God shower and overtake us in every aspect of our lives. We can boldly ask God for anything because as his children, we always have access to him. God bless you!
