As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God? My tears have been my food day and night, while people say to me all day long, “Where is your God?”-Psalm 42:1-3
We serve a God that loves us beyond our comprehension. We have an abundant life that includes joy, healing, peace and more. Although we know our inheritance, we will have what I call Psalm 42 moments. We will have moments when our circumstances and other things can drown out the voice of God. We must remember God is bigger, stronger and more powerful than our worst moments. In this Psalm, King David was expressing his true feelings to God. He was being honest and God appreciates our honesty. In any relationship, we must remember that we must be honest. David was honest and could encourage himself by the end of the Psalm.
When we feel our worst, we must remember that God will never abandon us. I know everything will go against those words but God will never abandon us. People may abandon, ignore, oppose and hurt us but God will never hurt us. Deuteronomy 31:6 says, “Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the LORD your God is the one who goes with you. He will not fail you or forsake you.” God will never abandon us. You may have to say this to yourself over and over before you believe it. God will never break any promise he makes to us. I am going to close this blog in prayer.
Thank you for another glorious day. Thank you for allowing us to see another day. Please forgive us of those things we have done that are not of you. Please forgive us for our disobedience and procrastination. We repent and ask for your forgiveness. We know we are your redeemed children. God, we ask during times of discouragement that we would hear your voice louder than the circumstances trying to take us out. You are our undefeated and matchless King. God, open our eyes and heart to you and your word. Help us to believe when nothing in our vision matches with what you have told us. Help us to be honest before you because you know us better than we know ourselves. God, we ask that through our tears, disappointment, anger, confusion, unbelief and questions that we would hold onto your unchanging hand and hide your word in our hearts. You are an awesome God. We praise you for who you are and thank you in advance for the mighty and matchless works you are about to do. We love and adore you. In the matchless and holy name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen!
