“Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”-2 Corinthians 9:7
God deserves our best. The best of the money, time and talent he has entrusted to us. God expects us to be an excellent steward of what he has entrusted to us. God gave us everything and does not need anything from us. We give to not only honor God but to help the community around us. God should never get our leftovers but we should give our best. When we do not want to give, that is a heart condition. God made us and knows we are not perfect. We must come before God to help us desire to give. So what are some of the ways we can come up higher in giving?
- Our Time: Give God the first part and last part of your day. Your devotional time is between you and God. Your schedule is something you should give to God. God should be the center of your schedule. Rest is essential and not optional. Rest is an act of worship and faith. Matthew 11″28 says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Decide to give God the best of your time. You may have to wake up or go to bed earlier. You may have to watch a TV show later. You may have to reduce your time on social media or on the phone. There are 24 hours in a day. What are you doing with your time?
- Our talent: God gifted us to bless the world around us. Our talents should be used to build up the Kingdom of God. You may be able to make a living from your talents. Remember, your talents are given to you by God. You are entrusted with those talents. You can volunteer to make an organization stronger. You can mentor someone else so that they can walk in their natural talents. Three people may have the same talent but their expression of the talent will be unique. You do not need to compare yourself to anyone else. You are a masterpiece.
- Our Money: Yes, you should tithe to your local church. Think about it? If you are receiving a life changing word and this is place where you receive your spiritual guidance, you should be tithing. When we tithe, we extend the reach of our local church. How much should you tithe? That is between you and God. Also, we have nonprofit organizations that reach out to help people daily. People have needs beyond the holiday season. Also, look at Jesus’s example. He met someone’s natural need (healing, hunger, restoration and so on) while meeting their spiritual need.
So, what are some ways can you come up higher? I know that I must stick to my morning and evening devotional time. The length of time will vary daily but I willing want to give God the start and end of each day as act of worship and devotion. Whatever you decide to do, know that God is on your side. There is no person, place or thing that can go against what God wants to do in our lives. Whatever you decide to give, know that he is pleased and loves us beyond our comprehension.
