“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”-Philippians 4:6
We need to ask ourselves, what is our prayer posture? When we pray, we need to remember that we are not strangers but children of God ? We must know God will answer our prayers one of three ways: yes, no or wait. Today we will discuss when God answers our prayers by saying no. When God says no, it will hurt and disappoint initially us but we need to realize that God knows more about lives and he is protecting us. Will there be tears, anger, confusion, fatigue and more? Of course, but you cannot stay in this posture forever. We must move one step at a time and walk out the path God has for us.
What is the best reaction to God’s no? First, we need to be honest with our feelings. We need to come before God and be honest. Psalm 107:19 says, “Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress.” We need to cry out to God. He can handle it. Next, we need to stay in God’s word, listen to sermons, listen to music that glorifies God. This will reinforce our standing as children of God. When our eyes our fixed on who we are as children of God and that we have a matchless and undefeated father in God, we will move forward in confidence.
Eventually, we will reach a place of thanksgiving. You may not be able to say thank you today. I promise you will reach a place of thanksgiving. Psalm 9:1 says, “I will give thanks to you, LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.” I think of the times that God said no to me. I eventually would see how God made a provision for me. I would see how God protected me. I would also see how I limited my prayers were and God exceeded my expectations and comprehension. My encouragement to you and myself is that closed doors are a beautiful and disguised blessing. We need to ask God to open our eyes and hearts to see what he is up to and trust him for the outcome. Let us praise God in advance for the great things that he is going to do.
