Midyear Checkup: Learn How to Say No

There was a time in my life when my favorite word was yes. I would say yes to any and everything. I never consulted God or my schedule before saying yes. I was more concerned about pleasing other people that I did not even consider or value myself. Now fast forward to today, I can say that life is completely different. Years ago, I started to slowly take my life back one decision at a time. I can honestly say that I am seeing the benefits of those decisions now. We are in the second half of 2019 and we still have plenty of time to review our progress. We can implement things now that will sow seeds to reap in the future.

  1. Paused decision making: You do not have to give an answer right away. It does not matter how exciting something appears to be. You need a moment to see if you can be fully committed and if this will disrupt your schedule.
  2. Give Your best to your inner circle: Everyone and everything does not deserve the same priority in your life. You loved ones, closest friend, church members and other people who are close to you should get your best. They should get your fully present version of yourself. They should not get the depleted and leftover version of your time.
  3. How do you benefit?: If something or someone is not life giving or is a waste of your time, say no. There is nothing wrong with valuing your time.  You cannot get a refund on your time. Once your time is spent, you cannot get it back. Every day, we get 24 hours that we can waste or invest in ourselves and the people around us.
  4. Start with yourself: You have to make time for yourself. You should spend quality time with yourself. You can love and value others if you do not love and value yourself.

Search your heart and ask yourself if you are establishing healthy boundaries by saying no? I must ask myself this question on a regular basis so that I can live a life full of peace, love and joy. We all deserve to live and enjoy our lives. There is nothing wrong with saying no. You can say no and still live a full and happy life. Let us decide to enjoy and live a full and fun life.
