Mid-Year Restart: Keep Moving Forward!

Summer is here! The weather and long days are great but this is also the signal of the second half of 2019.  The purpose of this article is to celebrate our progresses and to keep pushing forward with our goals.  If you are thinking of waiting until December to focus on your 2020 goals, let me stop you. We have a lot of time in 2019 to make some changes and better ourselves one decision at a time. It is not about how you start but about how you finish. If you need some help, please look at my recent blogs entitled: Mid-Year Check In Celebrate Progress and Mid-Year Review: Thriving vs Surviving .

Some of my goals this year included getting into better shape, being healthy, enjoying life and taking risks. The first picture is from this weekend at a friend’s wedding. I have not been this dressed up in a long time. I went shopping for my jewelry and more. When I went dress shopping, I became frightened. Then I had a self-talk with myself and realized that I needed to celebrate my better health. I needed to walk in gratitude. It was not about my new size. I not only looked good but I felt good in my soul. I was full of so much joy and realized that I needed to stay bold in all areas of my life.

My encouragement to you is to keep going. It is wonderful to make progress but we need to keep going. Progress is an encouragement to continue to keep going on your journey. You do not need to wait until the end to celebrate. The journey is about us not only individually but us as a community.  When I see someone else make progress or succeed, it is an encouragement to me. It is a reminder that I can also succeed. Each of us should celebrate each other’s successes. So, whatever progress you have made, celebrate it.

This year, I had a few setbacks. I will talk about one. I tried to a very a complicated new style on my hair. I have an example of Gabrielle Union-Wade wearing a similar style I wanted below. I did not want to pay someone to do it. I tried to do a similar style in 2018 and failed. So, I tried again this spring and after 18 hours, I said “I am done”. I have very beautiful hair. Working out is harsh on my hair and I just do not have time to do daily maintenance. I realized styling my hair is not my talent and I would rather pay someone to do it or do something low maintenance myself. I am thankful for this realization.

My encouragement to you is that failures and setbacks are necessary during this process to be successful. You should find out what you do not like and what is not your gift. This is important so you can focus on what you like to do and invest in your gift. I have some bad news for some people. You cannot major in everything. It is impossible. This is done on purpose so we must depend on each other.

This first half of 2019 has had its ups, downs and in between moments but we are still standing. So, let us pace ourselves for finishing great. It is okay to take some time to review and revamp your goals. It is great to be starting with a blank slate. Let’s continue to move forward knowing our best days are ahead. Let’s keep smiling and celebrating each other as we crush our goals one by one. Here is to all of us enjoying today and beyond.
