Prayer is Beautiful!

Prayer is a wonderful way to communicate with God. We can talk to God directly and know that he is hearing our prayer. God created us and He knows we are imperfect. Jesus died to not only pay a debt we could never pay  back but He also died so we could have a relationship with God. When God sees us, He does not see imperfection but sees righteousness or right standing because of Jesus.  Jesus left the Holy Spirit  behind to help us not only in prayer but throughout our lives. I want to take a moment to focus on some faucets of prayer.

  1. Jesus the Intercessor: Romans 8:34 says, “Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died–more than that, who was raised to life–is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.” Jesus is interceding or intervening on our behalf when we pray. That is why it is important to pray in Jesus’ name.
  2. The Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit is our advocate and helper. When you are praying and suddenly you feel an impression to redirect your prayer or to listen to God, that is the Holy Spirit.  Jesus said the following in John 14:16: “16 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”
  3. Prayer involves listening: When we pray, we have to remember that it is a conversation.  We have to allow God to speak to us. Can you imagine having a conversation where you cannot say a word? God is always speaking and we need to allow Him to do so.
  4. Prayer is worship: When praying, we show reverence to God who is our everything. Saying Hallelujah and praising him is a wonderful fabric of prayer. Psalm 150:6 says,. “6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord.” Yes you can sing or play a song during your prayer time.
  5. Prayer is thanksgiving: “Thank you God!” “Thank You Jesus” is a great way to start your day. Think of at three people, places and things you are thankful for? Thank God for who He is to you daily. Despite our shortcomings, He loves us and calls us righteous, victorious and much more.
  6. Pray as a redeemed Child of God: When we approach God, we are approaching our Heavenly Father. Our birthright is to talk to Him. In Galatians 3:26 is says, “26 So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith,” We do not have beg God for anything.
  7. Petitions: We can ask God for things. We can ask him for help.  You have to ask yourself, are you living the life Jesus died for you to have? Petitions should be apart of our prayers but not the entire focus.
  8. Yes, no or wait: God may say Yes, no or wait. We have to be open to His answer and know it lines up with His will for us. I thank God for the times he sad said no to me. He saw things I could have never foreseen. We have to thank him for the answers even when we do not agree with Him. Waiting is hard and I have to do a separate article about that.  Just know that whatever the answer, God is holding you.
  9. Honesty: God knows us better than we know ourselves. Sometimes, you many be in a bad mood, sick, hopeless and more. God knows that and He will meet us even int he valleys of life. You do not have to give God your sugar-coated version of yourself. Be honest and know he is prepared to take it. Also, know He could not love you more or less than He does right now.
  10. Scriptures: Praying God’s Word back to Him is a way to make us stronger while we petition Him.
