As a native Marylander, I am honored to write about my home state’s annual event Artscape 2018. Artscape 2018 will be held from Friday July 20, 2018 to Sunday July 22, 2018. The festival starts at 11:00 am daily and ends at 9:00 pm on Friday and Saturday and at 7:00 pm on Sunday but there are after hour events which you read about by clicking here. This free arts festival started in 1982 and is the largest one of its kind in the United States. More than 350,000 people are expected to come from around the world to this event. Admission is Free: There is no cost for admission. There is so much to see and you can break it up over the weekend. You can bring as many people as you would like to bring and not break the bank. This is great way to catch up with your significant other, family and friends while having a great time.
Free Music: Grammy award winning R&B group TLC and Baltimore natives Joi Carter and Davon Fleming are among the many performances on the main stage. TLC is well known for their hits such as “Waterfalls”, ” Creep” and “No Scrubs”. Joi Carter is a singer and songwriter with a beautiful and unique sound. Davon Fleming is well known as a semifinalist on NBC’s The Voice and will once again blow away the audience. You can see the full main stage listing by clicking here. Free Concerts: There will be dance, theater, comedy, pop up concerts and even music after hours. Tony award winner, Garth Fagan, will be presenting this weekend at the Lyric. You can read more about that by clicking here. You can see the complete list of concerts by clicking here.
Family Friendly Activities: There are areas dedicated to kids, teens and those young at heart. Some of the kids activities include crafts, face painting, puppet making, science demonstrations, concerts and more. To see the kids’s schedule, click here. Food and drink (there is a cost): There will be more than 30 food vendors. All proceeds from all beverage stands go directly to Artscape to ensure the event will stay free. Art: There will be more than 100 art vendors featured. This group was selected from more than 400 applicants to have their work featured at the event. There will be many things available for purchase. You can read more about which vendors will be featured by clicking here.
